During the course of the 2016-2017 university year, the “Resilience” team of the IPC—Facultés Libres de Philosophie et de Psychologie—studied the resilience of foster caregivers and that of the IPC students.

• 1. The topic of the resilience of foster caregivers has never been the subject of any publication in France. A single English-language publication addresses the resilience of families in which a placement has taken place (Lietz, Julien‐Chinn, Geiger and Hayes Piel, 2016). In this context, the Resilience team has been oriented towards research targeting the study of the relationship between the risk factors specific to foster caregivers’ activity and their level of resilience. The research is being carried out in collaboration with the Paris Region Fostering Department of the French Union for the Protection of Children, and will take 30 foster caregivers as subjects. It comprises: (a) a clinical research interview that aims to reveal the specific risk factors and protective factors present, and (b) the Wagnild and Young’s Resilience Scale.
• 2. The second topic is the resilience of the IPC students. This project is related to the multi-site project carried out as part of collaboration between the University Paris 8 and the University du Québec à Trois-Rivières which took place in Algeria, Canada (Quebec), France, Mongolia, Romania, Rwanda, and Togo. The objective is to compare the results obtained from 370 French students at public universities with those of the IPC students. The project involves the drawing up of a risk and protection factor questionnaire and the Wagnild and Young’s Resilience Scale.

The project is under the direction of Mr. Serban Ionescu, Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry, as part of his teachings as well as TER (Studies and Research Work) students in the third year of a bachelor’s degree at the IPC.
